The White Yarrow is a perennial. There is an advantage to Fall planting of perennials. These transplants will display more flowers than the ones in the Spring. They will also be larger. Active root growth comes in the Fall when there are moderate temperatures. Plants grow below ground even if you don’t see growth above ground. This allows when the tough heat of summer comes they will be well established.
Yarrows are great for attracting butterflies, dried arrangements, cut flowers, fragrant or for show.
The hardiness zones for White Yarrow are 3 – 9 and heat zones are 1 – 9. It is a flower of low maintenance. Exposure: Full sun.
Fall is the best time to plant in the Gulf Coast, southern half of Texas, southern California and the desert Southwest because they suffer very hot summers and have mild winters. In zones 8 – 10, the planting season actually goes through winter. This allows plants to establish their roots and makes plants less vulnerable to dying out quickly before the summer heat.
